THE JOURNEY …
It all started with my son Arun, he used to sketch roughly on his books of all the things that fascinated him, mainly all kinds of vehicles like cars, bikes, automobiles and so on.
It was then that I realized my kids were fond of drawings, and that’s when I called upon a master from Kalabhavan to teach them the basics of painting. The master used to come once a week, mostly on Saturdays to teach them.
Sooner, I realized that my kids were not that patient enough and had also lost interest in painting.
But somehow, I gained interest towards it. And so, I requested the master to teach me the basics of painting. It was out of my passion that I tried my hands on painting. I started my baby steps with him teaching me the basics of painting and the lessons continued for a year.
Later during the construction of our new home, I had the idea of decorating my walls with some beautiful paintings. But the paintings I thought of purchasing were very expensive and thus I decided to paint on my own to decorate my walls.
I tried my hands on paintings with the best of what I can and the results of my hard work & passion did pay off.
Later the master left and a couple of years later I started VStar. It was then a designer in the organization who suggested me a tutor and so I started practicing under him. He tried to teach me sketching and watercolor, I found it very difficult and opted to do oil on canvas. But it was quite difficult for me as I realized that you have to be an expert on this, cause once done it cannot be undone so easily.
So, I moved back to oil painting and brushed up my skills again. It was easy to paint but it took time for detailing and other processes. However, I liked the richness of the colors in oil painting, which cannot be observed in watercolors.
I mastered my skills in oil painting for about 20 years.
It was this pandemic that changed my opinions, I started experimenting with watercolors. I taught myself how to paint with it. All the things around started inspiring me to paint. The paintings made of watercolors made me content and happy. It was so soothing, also I believe rain and watercolors had some connection in between. I was very happy with what I was doing.
And during the pandemic I painted around 300 paintings that is around one painting a day, and this continues. I experiment with colors and different types of paintings.
This is my happiness, hard work, passion, and my openness to learn new things every day.
